First in the movie, we see that the pet dog max was brought home and was pampered by her owner named katie into the city of new york, max was always pampered by katie and understands each other's language but one thing that katie wasn't able to communicate well was her absence away from home which she thought the pet max will understand, max on the other hand always wondered why katie had to leave everyday to only God knows where, this to me shows that our pets actually know and feel the hurt whenever they re left at home alone,
even though we don't understand each other's language, we can actually communicate better with our dogs but just like i have advised in previous posts on the blog, your dog won't understand expressions if you don't teach them to, max and katie understood themselves yet lacked communication.
Secondly, on a day while katie was heading back home, she brought along another massive breed of pet dog named duke and max definitely was not happy with this development, claimed territory at first and further felt intimidated especially with the size of duke, duke also at first was a bully that ate max's food, evicted her from her small comfy bed and broke flower vases and other things in the house and still threatened max if she scolds him(duke), katie didn't manage them well because the attention shifted from max to the new pet duke and this as a result took a while before they got along, they finally became good friends but if that was to happen in real life, i'm afraid it might not be as easy as it was portrayed in the movie because max would 've continued to claim territory and duke on the other hand with the use of its huge body will fight max which can eventually lead to constant fights of the two breeds till one severely injures the other or till they re separated from each other all the time, it wouldn't have been easy in real life if max was a possessive dog that doesn't want to share katie's presence with any other pet so it's good to always study your dog if she's the possessive type and will not accommodate the presence of another dog or pet so you won't put pressure of separating fights on yourself or if you must bring in another dog, train the one on ground to be accommodating and friendly before the arrival of another.
One of the recent posts on the blog talks about your dog been bored and begins to destroy things over and over, this is seen in the movie as all pets from different homes get together in each other's home to do what they dare not do when their owners are at home, this is a pure evidence that pets get bored when you leave them in the house to themselves, that is why it is advised that you walk your dog morning and evening or on schedule so they can burn excess energy that is diverted to destruction of things in the house.
Another thing i noticed in the movie is that they encouraged socialising your pets when they walk them around other pets probably on a weekend when their owners were at home, it was seen that most of the pets were happy to be brought out by their owners and saw it as an opportunity to mix with their fellow pets in the park, just as it promoted socialisation among dogs, it also encouraged it in humans who walk their pets together and an example is seen where katie is being approached by another dog lover, they got talking and practically left their pets to keep each other's company while they went talking too.
The uttermost lesson that humans can learn in the movie secret life of pet is that pets also have their lives and expects to be carried along in our daily life but as the case may be, language might be a barrier so that is why it is advised we should train our pets to fit in to what we want to see in them.
